— Ẹsẹ̀ Ifá · Ìká MéjìAṣẹ tí a fi ń ṣe ibi, kìí gbe olóhun; aṣẹ tí a fi ń ṣe rere níí mú oríire wá. (The power used to perpetrate malice does not sustain its possessor; the authority wielded for righteousness brings enduring victory.)
The Sacred Structure of Aṣẹ
Aṣẹ originates directly from Olódùmarè and permeates all levels of existence:
- ◈Aṣẹ Ẹ̀dá (The Life Force of Creation): Present in the elements of nature, water, mountains, sacred animals, and botanical species (Ewé).
- ◈Aṣẹ Ọ̀rọ̀ (The Power of the Spoken Word): Awakened in the Babaláwo through liturgical initiation, enabling prayers (Àdúrà) and incantations (Ayajo) to command reality.
- ◈Aṣẹ Orí (Personal Sovereign Authority): The innate potential granted to each individual head to achieve greatness, wealth, and fulfillment.
The Inseparable Link: Aṣẹ and Ìwà Pẹ̀lẹ́
The ancient stanzas of Ifá constantly warn against the intoxicating danger of spiritual power disconnected from ethical restraint. When an individual seeks to acquire spiritual formulas or initiation solely to dominate others, inflict harm, or satisfy greed, they violate the cosmic covenant of Ọ̀rúnmìlà.
In the tradition of Akurẹ́, every authentic priest is bound by solemn oaths (Èèwọ̀) to use their consecrated Aṣẹ strictly for the elevation of human life, the healing of illness, the protection of the innocent, and the restoration of fractured destinies.
A true Babaláwo is not a sorcerer dealing in fear; he is an enlightened physician of destiny, an elder of ethics, and an anchor of peace within his community.
