The Mathematics of the 16 Ikin
When the Babaláwo attempts to grasp all 16 Ikin with his right hand:
- If 1 Ikin remains in his left hand: he marks two vertical strokes (II).
- If 2 Ikin remain in his left hand: he marks one vertical stroke (I).
- If 0 or more than 2 remain: no mark is made, and the cast is repeated.
Repeating this four times on the right leg and four times on the left leg produces one of the 256 unique Odù signatures.
